I’ll gladly take a postcard if they’re going, I find writing letters/postcards to be a very nice gesture. I believe it’s more meaningful/intimate going out of your way to write and send one in the post rather than an instant message. When I was travelling through India for 15 weeks I decided I’d send two back to England, I was pretty sceptical that they’d make it back as the post office I was in looked as though they’d throw them in the bin at first but the lady behind the counter was nice and even if we didn’t really understand each other, they made it home. One is still on my mothers fridge, the other I think the girl threw hers in the bin. The only issue is I’m left handed and my handwriting is awful, it’s the thought that counts… Haha.
