Not able to join chat rooms.

No - have reproduced problem in private browsing mode in all browsers.

Did you update your software recently?

The issue has been happening on and off for many months, but it seems much worse now.

What is the error message you're seeing?

None

Attempting to log into chat returns me to the front page with no error.

The problem occurs like this:

1. Log into the front of the site - can access forums.
2. Attempt to join a chat room
3. Returned to the site front page with no error message.

I made a screen recording of this happening some time ago:

I was told at the time it was because I use a VPN. I do not use a VPN. I use a Three 3G dongle - so perhaps you have blocked their network? Or as was suggested, it is being mistakenly detected as a VPN.

There is no point discussing browsers, cookies, etc. since I am able to reproduce this on multiple browsers (Safari, Firefox, Chrome) on Mac, and on my iPhone (Chrome and Safari) both in a normal window and in an incognito / private browsing window.

I've attached a log from the Chrome browser console for when it fails.

One thing I’ve found that works for me, is to not be signed in at the point you go into chat. Sign in as a guest, and then in the next login prompt proceed to login with your details. It will fail first time round with an error but if you try again it should let you in to the chat room.

Thanks for the suggestion - but I tried it and it just gives me "Client assessment failed":

it is quite an inconsistent problem too - for example, right now I am logged into the other ukchat with no problems, but unable to log in here.

Yeah the client assessment failed is what I was saying with first login failure, just attempt it one or two more times and you should be logged in

I get logged in at forum level fine, but if I try to enter a chat room I get bounced back to the room selection page. I occasionally get into a chat room, but generally not foreally the past week

It's not a device or browser problem, it's a site problem, take multiple attempts to log in now, where as I never used too. I have found though if I turn my device off and on again (I know very old advice) I get in easier. And I have to do this on both pad and phone, both using different browsers
