A question on procedure

I am new here and would like to know how you are expected to make contact with someone that you are interested in. I know that you can post on their profile page but what I have also done in a few cases is send them a message in 'start conversation,' is that the done thing please? The person(s) concerned have not always been online when I did that and not all have been online since (it sounds like I have done hundreds of these things but it is only about six) but I am not too successful in getting replies-even if they said 'go away.'
Is what I am doing wrong please as in is there another or better way of trying to make contact?

People's profiles may allow you to post.
A direct message is always a good introduction. May be hold fire with the dick pick as an introduction and say hi to see if you get a response.
Remember people don't live here so a reply may take a while.
For instant gratification join a chat room say hi and see if you can't talk to like minded people there.

Thank you so much for this, I was not sure if what I was trying to do was the wrong way of doing things. There have been no dick pics, I just tell them what a nice person I am and offer them the chance to get to know me.
I have extensive online contact on another site (LUSH) and I am not here looking for instant gratification, in fact on Lush my speciality is exciting the ladies on the other end of the conversation with my words and imagination.
I also have over 260 stories on Lush and am here at the invitation/suggestion of an exciting lady that I have lots of contact with there.

As I said, I spend a lot of time elsewhere but I just wanted to check if my (unsuccessful) attempts to contact ladies were the right way to go about it.

Based on your advice, I will wait for them all to contact me although from tomorrow evening until Tuesday of the following week THEY will be unsuccessful because my only access to the internet is via this desktop computer and I will be away on holiday.
