I was going to guess bird of prey, as that is what the injuries look like...but I couldn't imagine a situation where a bird of prey would go for your ankles...thus the bramble bush...perhaps trying to rescue Sleeping Beauty or doing battle with dragons or something...

It was brambles in the wood the daft bird was caught up in a tree in the middle of a huge patch
