The Crucible by Arthur Miller
My favourite play in my 20s. Still an incredible piece of dramatic writing and a stirring allegory of McCarthyism. So much beautiful language. Just reread for the 100th time.
But it saddens me that it took me so long to realise how problematic this play is. It's deeply misogynistic. And full of victim blaming and accusations of hysteria aimed at women who are actually victims of abuse essentially. But it's still a fucking great play. So I highly recommend it.
