Figging was a form of punishment employed during the Victorian times.

As some people will clench their buttocks whilst being caned to lessen the sting, a carved piece of ginger would be placed into the anus (sort of butt plug shaped), and whenever the buttocks were clenched, oil would be released from the ginger, and warm up the anus.
